Biotechnology (Anna, DongTai, Jerome, Tresa & Miss Eileen Toh)

HI ALL!

okay we'll start by explaining our daily routine. in the mornings, we start with breakfast. subsequently, the biotech, physics and english literature students have to proceed to Girton college for their lessons. Cambridge university comprises of many different colleges with different niche areas. we are residing in New Hall college with SA and RJ. as explained, the different students would gather in either New Hall or Girton College for their respective lessons. history, maths, philosophy and economics lectures take place in New Hall. while the others, are in Girton.

In the afternoon, we had a tour around the Cambridge town centre. The whole tour took abt 3 hrs and we WALKED all the way!! we visited beautiful places like the King's college chapel(refer to Peien's post down there for pictures), the market place and The next day (2/8), our lecture was on plant virus, which was super duper interesting! we then went to discussion groups. Pioneers and HCI were grouped together. HC people are really nice! (:

In the afternoon we had a practical session. we had 2 experiments to carry out. for the 1st, we were supposed to infect the plant with something called the Tobacco Mosaic Virus. For the other experiment, we had to test to see whether the plant is sick! so that was in brief description of what we did. so we all gathered again to board the bus back to New Hall.

Together with Ms Toh, we got off the chartered bus when it reached Newhall. BUT THEN we realised that, to get to town, we could actually continue taking the same bus which would stop in the heart of the town, and eventually skipping the looooooong walk there. ON TOP OF THAT, we missed the 5.50pm bus back to NewHall and had to take the loooooooong walk up again. GRRRR. btw, the road up to newhall is a hill, so its very tiring.

3rd August, we had morning lecture on proteins. It was quite different from our usual syllabus. We have to admit that none of us could understand the lecture fully. ANYWAY... afternoon practical was not as interesting as the previous one. It wasn’t really like a practical session we usually have in pj, but instead a computer session. We were supposed to construct a structure. But we four really had no idea what was going on. We were trying our best! we swear!Food here is fantastic!

every morning, breakfast super nice with bacon, eggs, waffles, orangejuice, cereal, milk, sausages, fruits, sauteedmushrooms, croissants with jam or honey etc etc. a really good way to start the day. we usually have lunch on our own, but then again dinner is provided. dinner has been sumptuous; fish and chips, lamb chops, pasta, salads and not to forget the various desserts such as cherry crumble with custard, tiramisu, rich blueberry cheese cake blah blah. SUGAR RUSH BABEH!

(will try to get the photos that we took and upload it here asap.. =D)
